What do you recommend to eat in Brisbane?

‘Willes Fine Foods’ in Bulimba... Actually the best sandwich I have ever had! (Satay chicken, Caesar salad, Avocado and Potato bake on thick wholemeal bread)

What would you like to see girls wearing this summer?

This season colour and print have made a huge come back, I think the girls of Brisbane should be embracing this trend and stepping outside of their comfort zone.

Who do you admire?

I don’t necessarily admire just one person. I admire those who have set the path for our generation, the ones who have made a difference whether that be in fashion, music or politics.. And of course my Mum.

Favourite place to holiday?

To Date I have only been to Asia, so let’s go with Phuket.. Food, Beach + Night life = The most incredible cultural experience!

What is your favourite label in store and why?

I’m going to say Gary Bigeni based on his pattern cutting, the man is a genius! I can’t even comprehend where he starts let alone deconstructing his garments.

Nick Brown- the creator..

Nick was inspired to start Soludos for entirely selfish reasons. A man whose love for the summer comes second only to his love for travel, he looked and was unable to find the childhood staple in his new hometown of NYC.

Investigation revealed a host of like-minded friends who resorted to stocking up on espadrilles when overseas. More surprisingly he found that many more friends were not even aware of their classic style and comfort.

Determined to show them that life exists beyond the flip flop, he set out to design and source the perfect accessory for a summer of fun and friends.Combining the clink of a glass ‘Salud’ and the heat of the sun ‘sol’, Soludos was born.

The essential ingredients: a natural jute sole and breathable cotton upper, and some additions for more comfort and a better fit.

The natural eco-friendly jute sole is woven and tightly bound to create a sole that breathes.

A thin rubber layer helps protect your shoe should you have an unfortunate run in with a summer shower..

There was nothing half-hearted about the dresses that Magdalena sent down the runway of the Cargo Theatre this past May. Their neon prints (bringing our mind to crop circles) were illuminated by the purple light that flooded the room, and the column-like pleating that adorned each dress was nothing short of majestic.

Incorporating delicate hand work such as Peruvian knitwear, Macrame, and Concertina pleating into each dress - Magdalena is keeping techniques of a bygone era alive, whilst constructing her own beautiful ideal of future dressing.

Early next week we will be receiving our first ever delivery of "Botanica" by Secret Squirrel. The colour palette consists of dove grey, deep olive, navy, rose pinks, citruses, alongside beautiful prints by Elke Kramer.

From humble beginnings under a canvas umbrella at Sydney’s Glebe markets, Secret Squirrel has quickly evolved to become a recognizable and coveted label with wide media coverage everywhere from Vogue to Frankie magazine.

Creative couple Bri and Andrew bring their various talents together to create a shared vision in Secret Squirrel. Bri is a designer, qualified florist and award-winning graduate of Enmore TAFE; Andrew is a designer and musician. It is their love of music and vintage that are key influences in the labels unique aesthetic. Simple, elegant, young, modern and a little innocent – it’s clothing that oozes luxury but is never ostentatious.

Directed by noted set designer Happy Massee and soundtracked by Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beck’s “Heaven Can Wait,” the film was shot at Tucker designer Gaby Basora’s grandmother’s home and references the 60s Hollywood spirit of Steve McQueen and Marilyn Monroe.

Are there certain places you look to for fashion inspiration?
I get inspiration from people who surround me
- bloggers, friends, designers and people on the street.
I see something I like, then try to make it my own.

After researching Brisbane based stores and retail company’s
on your blog what do you think makes Brisbane a unique shopping destination?
We don’t have 1000 designer flagship stores like Sydney and Melbourne,
but what we do have is an endless array
of fashion boutiques full of designer brands,
and unnamed fashion steals. I always manage to find that one special piece.

To you, what kind of pieces create a timeless summer look?
You can’t go wrong with high-waisted shorties with a tucked in top,
Tristan Blair leather boots and a Deadly Ponies/Alexander Wang bag.

As the new season is just around the corner,
what direction do you feel Australian Fashion is heading?
Any predictions for seasonal trends ahead?
If you mentioned the words ‘International Australian fashion’ 10 years ago,
only a few names would spring to mind,
like Collette Dinnigan,
but oh how things have changed;
Camilla and Marc, Sass and Bide, Willow,
Gail Sorronda and Dion Lee is all I have to say.
I’m expecting some light-weight, tailored and sheer numbers from them.

Looking to your future in fashion-
where could we find you in 10 years time?
Being realistic-
perhaps working for a fashion label in their advertising or
marketing department. Being unrealistic-
posing in expensive clothes around the world,

Literally meaning "Dreamtime" in french Temps Des Reves
is the creation of designer
Adrian Mesko.
From his humble beginnings as a young boy immigrating across Europe,
Mesko explains how his label came to be..

"A fashion photographer by trade I have been
experimenting with printing on different fabrics
since 2001, at which point I had two galleries
in London selling my works primarily on canvas.

Four years ago I printed one of my photographs on
silk/lycra for a friend. A swatch from the print
has been lying around my house since & with it
Temps Des Reves, lying dormant.

Midway through 2010 I had the idea for the scarves
& the label began to develop. Its a very personal
& nostalgic project, from the logo through to the
choice of images right through to the choice of
color for the packaging.

The logo is based on a photograph my father took
of me at the age of 12. It was the day before
I emigrated from Czechoslovakia with
my mum. "

This was taken whilst doing research
for a fashion shoot in London’s
New Bond Street. Its the window
of a famous old London Jeweller.

Furs
The old Portobello Market is
where I saw this rack of fur
coats back in 2002, I took a
close up of just the sleeves.
Suddenly it occurred to me as an
interesting print for a scarf.

Havana
This Photograph was taken in
Cuba in 2001 on a month long
trip following in the foot-
steps of Ernest Hemingway.

All scarves are 110 x 110 cm each. They come in Silk
Satin & Silk Chiffon, they are hand rolled & are
presented in a yellow gift box wrapped in soft
tissue.

Rachel Comey.

Rachel Comey originally made a name for herself in the menswear industry (available at Dirtbox)

before expanding to womenswear much to our delight.

She has developed a cult like following that collect her shoes religiously
- traditionally her women's shoes feature a solid wooden heel which has become her trademark.
Rachel Comey manages to effortlessly capture that sophisticated downtown NY feel.
Her prints are soft and earthy, fabrics are always the best quality and the cuts can do no wrong.

One of the most colourful, special shows of the week was Gary Bigeni. He absolutely blew us away...

Gary's latest collection "Distance" was a kaleidoscope of colour. We loved his use of turquoise (especially in his hair!) as well as rich reds, bright oranges, and the introduction of a really great colour blocked stripe. Witness for yourself the beauty of the latest Gary Bigeni collection... dropping in at the loft in Summer...

Last Monday night we ventured around to the Opera House for the spectacle that was LOVER's 10 year anniversary. Held in the Studio section of the Opera House overlooking Sydney harbour, the venue was an ideal location to witness a historic moment in Australian fashion. Show highlights included blood red french lace, floaty floor length dresses, and the perfect tuxedo combination. Take a look for yourself...

Do you have a favourite piece?

The Maxi dress would have to be my favourite. It represents simple, clean elegance which embodies what the Gary Bigeni brand is about. The dress is all on one seam, drapes beautifully and really captures movement.

How do you find the right balance with colour in a winter collection?

It was really important for this collection to represent more of my own tonal style, which is the seen in the daring and contrasting colour palette. I believe colour is a strong design element that should not be restricted by season or trend. Colour should be worn all year round- even more so to brighten up the cooler months.

Which colour combination do you like best, and how should people wear it?

I love the Lake colour in my collection, which is deep lake blue with a shadowy finish, worked back with Caramel. It is combination that which looks both classic and fresh and modern. I would suggest people wear a dress in lake blue with caramel accessories, such as a belt, to accentuate the deep colour of garment.

Do you think it’s important to design trans-seasonal pieces for winter collections in Australia?

Australia’s winter isn’t a true winter so a mix of fabrication weights and textures is important for trans-seasonal appeal. I create my collection to provide lots of different layering opportunities as this helps to construct outfits that will suit any weather or temperature
